The Workout That Got Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde 3

Reese Witherspoon is making sure her body is in incredible shape for Legally Blonde 3. She announced the trilogy on Instagram wearing a pink string bikini while floating on a blue raft, recreating the iconic pool scene from the 2001 hit. “It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3,” she captioned the June 7 video.
Us Weekly can now reveal the secret to the 42-year-old’s incredible physique: Burn 60. Katie Jo Zayon, training director at the Brentwood, California, studio where the Draper James founder is often seen working up a sweat, spoke to Us Weekly exclusively about why the workout is so effective.

“At Burn 60 we do a progression set where we start with weighted dumbbell squat presses, then we would continue in the same exercise standing on the Bosu ball to challenge your core and finally we would add holds and pulses towards the end of the set to push the muscles to failure,” explains Zayon. “The benefit to these exercises and the way in which they are performed is to recruit as many muscle groups as possible and to hit the slow and fast twitch muscle fibers resulting in lean and defined arms, abs, booties and legs.”

The high intensity interval training class, which boasts the tagline “Train Hard Train Happy,” incorporates treadmill intervals for both endurance and speed as well as strength and agility training, utilizing various types of fitness equipment and bodyweight-based moves.

One reason the Wild actress is a Burn 60 devotee: According to the gym, the 45 and 60-minute sessions burn 500 to 900 calories. “The method is a full body, performance driven workout program designed to torch fat cells and tone your entire body,” Zayon explains to Us. “We are rooted in HIIT training so we utilize treadmills and a variety of floor equipment to help our clients spike and drop their heart rates throughout class.”

One look at the Cruel Intentions alum’s svelte physique and it’s clear her hard work is paying off. And according to Zayon, all Burn 60 fans are going to see body-defining results from continuous sessions: “During class you are definitely mentally and physically challenged to rise to the occasion and push through your inner barriers,” she says. “You will walk out of our studio drenched in sweat and proud of the work you have put in.”

The age defying Sweet Home Alabama star also stays true to a healthy lifestyle with sweat sessions with fitness guru Simone De La Rue, founder of the dance and rebound-based workout Body By Simone. And in another homage to her Elle Woods character, the Wrinkle In Time actress shared her love of fitness on Instagram last May. Under a photo of her holding a green juice post-workout, Witherspoon wrote: “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!”
